The Realistic Daily, Weekly & Monthly Cleaning Schedule
Most cleaning schedules are written for a person with unlimited Saturday energy. This one is written for a person with a job, a life, and roughly 20 spare minutes a day — and it still keeps a home genuinely clean.
Daily: the 15-minute floor
Daily tasks aren’t about deep cleanliness — they’re about stopping the pile-up that makes everything else harder:
- Dishes done or in the dishwasher (10m) — a clear sink is the keystone habit
- Wipe kitchen counters and stovetop after cooking (5m)
- Make the bed (2m)
- One quick reset: shoes, mail, cups migrate back where they live (5m)
Weekly: split it, never batch it
The classic mistake is saving weekly tasks for one “cleaning day.” That day becomes dreadful, gets skipped once, and the schedule dies. Spread them instead — one task per day, 10–25 minutes:
| Day | Task | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Vacuum main rooms + rugs | 20m |
| Tuesday | Bathroom: sink, mirror, counter | 10m |
| Wednesday | Bathroom: toilet + quick shower scrub | 20m |
| Thursday | Change sheets + laundry | 15m |
| Friday | Mop kitchen + bathroom floors | 20m |
| Saturday | Dust surfaces + electronics | 15m |
| Sunday | One monthly-rotation task (below) | 20m |
Monthly: one rotating task a week
Monthly tasks are the ones nobody remembers until they’re gross. Don’t schedule a “monthly deep clean day” — rotate one item into that Sunday slot:
- Week 1: wipe inside the microwave + oven door; clear one fridge shelf of mystery items
- Week 2: scrub shower grout or descale the showerhead
- Week 3: vacuum under furniture; wipe baseboards in one room
- Week 4: wash pillow covers / duvet; clean interior windows in one room
For the full list of what needs attention monthly, seasonally, and yearly, see the deep cleaning checklist and how often should you clean.
Low-energy weeks: cut from the bottom
A schedule you can’t shrink is a schedule you’ll quit. Priority order when life happens: dishes and counters survive everything; floors can slip a week; dusting and the monthly rotation go first. A skipped task should roll forward quietly — not turn into a red badge of shame that makes you avoid the whole list.
🫧 How Bubbles runs this schedule for you
This whole article is one setup screen in Bubbles. Every chore gets a frequency — daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or a custom interval — plus a difficulty and minute estimate. The app then generates each day’s list automatically, spreads the load, and quietly rolls anything you skip. You never plan a week again; you just open the Daily tab.
Set it up in Bubbles (5 minutes)
- Add preset chores to each room — the presets already carry sensible frequencies and time estimates.
- Adjust the few that don’t match your home (bigger house, pets, kids — bump floors to twice a week).
- Open the Daily tab tomorrow. Your schedule is now a short list that rebuilds itself every morning.
